Improved capacity of the Youth Committee members on Lobby advocacy skill, Sustainable Agriculture and Enterprise Development

Scope of work
- Activity 1 : Virtual Training on Lobby Skill, Sustainable Agriculture and Enterprise Development
The virtual training under the project entitled "Improved capacity of the youth committee members on Lobby Advocacy skills, Sustainable Agriculture and Enterprise Development" was conducted from 15 to 17th July, 2021 using zoom platform due to the COVID pandemic. Altogether 18 youth farmers and leaders (9 males and 9 females) engaging in different cooperatives and private sector from eight districts participated in the training. The virtual training was mainly guided to understanding sustainable agriculture, agroforestry and agroforestry-based enterprises, developed the lobby, advocacy and leadership skills of the youths to lobby and advocate the issues of young farmers, prepared business plan and farm planning and distributed tea and kiwi seedlings to young farmers to establish their own business.
Training participants were oriented on introduction to sustainable agriculture, need/importance of sustainable agriculture, practices of sustainable agriculture, concept/need and importance of agroforestry, income generation from agroforestry practices. Similarly, for the development of lobby and leadership skill participants were oriented on Lobby skill of young farmers, how to prepare SMART policy documents, how to conduct meeting with decision makers (stakeholders local govt. Agricultural officers (FACT Methodology), stakeholder analysis mapping uploading problems from youth farmers and download solution from decision makers and policy makers. Likely for the entrepreneurship development participants were oriented generation of business ideas, Preparation of business plan, Farm planning and record keeping, Enterprise development, Success of enterprise, Success stories.
During the virtual training participants had prepared their farm business plan in brief. (Please see the business plan template in annex 3). Similarly discussion and opinion sharing on Draft policy recommendations/ position paper on YF support for organic farming certification conducted with the training participants. CTCF Nepal has developed a draft recommendation paper on young farmer support for organic farming and certification.
- Activity 2: Distributed tea and kiwi seedlings to young farmers to establish their own business
CTCF Nepal provided 550 tea seedlings to 18 young farmers each (total 9900 seedlings) and 20 kiwi seedlings to 15 young each (total 300 kiwi seedlings) as a part of enterprise support to strengthen their family farming business. The young farmers planted tea and kiwi in three hectares of land by which agroforestry system was promoted and the income of farmers will certainly rise. Some of the YF have intercropped chilly, cardamom, beans, lentil, etc. which has added some surplus return to their family farming business. The young farmers generated revenue from their farm which they invested to flourish their enterprises and became self-sustained.
Result Achieved
- 18 young and women farmers gathered a comprehensive understanding on sustainable agriculture, agroforestry and agroforestry-based enterprises,
- Participants got knowledge of leadership skills on lobby and advocate and had committed to advocate on the issues of young farmers on agroforestry practices and family farming,
- Prepared and presented individual business plans,
- Generated new and unique business ideas,
- Identified concerned stakeholders to access financial and technical support,
- Prepared drafted policy recommendations/ position paper for organic farming certification
- Started their own enterprises with the input support (seedlings of tea and kiwi plant) and promoted agroforestry practices and environmental conservation.

Objective:
- Rebuilding the economic condition of small holders tea vulnerable family farmers providing by short term loan in 3% interest rate.
- To generate the running capital to run their house and secured food in this pandemic.
Proposed Activities
CTCF will get the loan $50000.00 fifty thousand dollars loan according to the term from the ARISE-Farmers builds on the coverage of the ongoing IFAD regional project named Asian Pacific Farmer Programme (APFP) manage and implemented by the Asian Farmers’ Association for Sustainable Development (AFA) as the Regional Implementing Agency (RIA) through National Peasant Coalition as National Implementation Agency (NIA). Nepal Agriculture Cooperative Central Federation Limited (NACCFL) is the implementing partner.
CTCF will selected following 6 members cooperatives and provided them loan according to the terms of project and cooperatives will provided to loan their members of small holders family farmers in each members maximum 150 dollars. CTCF will asked to details names list of farmers who are getting loan and transfer the amount of the cooperatives . Cooperatives will provide to all of the members with in a week and after 6 months cooperatives collected all loan and interests with maximum 3% from farmers and repay back to CTCF in calculating 2 % interest rate. Primary cooperative can get 1 % interest rate for management cost . CTCF will collected all of the loan amount and repay back to NIA/ NACCFL with calculating 1 % interest rate.

1.1 Introduction
National Land Right Forum (NLRF) Nepal, Center Tea Cooperative Federation(CTCF) LTD Nepal and the Community Self-Reliance Centre(CSRC) conducted the national consultation program to promote the agenda of family farmers especially to young farmers to mitigate and adapt climate change in association with Asian Farmers Association for sustainable rural development(AFA) on 25 September 2022 in Kathmandu Nepal.
The consultation was completed with wider range of 30 participants from farmer organizations, farmers, youths, government agencies, academician, development partners, medias and NGOs. Mr. Lalmani Wagle, climate change activist, participant of COP 25 & 26 and the Lector of Tri-Chandra Campus, highlighted the importance of COP-27 and its process, issues of family farmers and youth famers in Nepal; and the opportunities of young, women and indigenous farmers to participate COP-27. Similarly, undersecretary of Forest and Environment of Nepal Dr. Arun Prakash Bhatta highlighted the government's commitments and preparation towards COP-27, Key agendas and the opportunities and challenges of Nepal to negotiate different forums in the events. Participants shared the experiences and suggested ministry to incorporate the agenda of young and family farmers to mitigate and adopt climate change in Nepal.
1.2 Objective
- Organize and conduct a one day national-level consultation with relevant government agencies and stakeholders to promote the agenda of family farmers, especially young farmers, to mitigate and adapt to climate change, in the context of COP 27 .
- Conduct necessary follow up activities to implement the action points that resulted from the national level consultations.
1.3 Results
- Both CSO/FO participants and government agencies are able to establish working engagement for COP27/country-level agriculture related climate action
- CSO/FOs know the initiatives and plans of the government delegation to COP27 and have concrete action points on engaging them in the process

1.1 Introduction
The Asian Farmers Association for Sustainable Rural Development (AFA), with an alliance of 22 national FFPOs in 16 countries, is in its second year of implementation of the project entitled “Young Women and Men Farmers As Advocates for Sustainable, Climate-Resilient and Gender Sensitive Agri-Forest-Based-Livelihoods: Young Farmers for Farms in Forests, Forests in Farms”.
The project is funded by the Food and Agriculture Organization-Forest and Farm Facility. The aim of the project is to capacitate FFPOS and their NYFCs to support sustainable, resilient, and gender-sensitive agri-forest-based enterprises led by young women and men farmers and to provide a platform for them to engage in national and international policy process on climate action.
AFA, as an alliance, actively participated in the UNFCCC processes, specifically the Conference of Parties (COP27) last November 2022 in Egypt. Annually, the COP meets via a summit, with heads of states, experts and campaigners coming together to discuss various key climate change issues and work together to provide concrete solutions to tackle these global challenges. The COP provides a platform for stakeholders to engage and potentially influence the outcomes of these global plans and targets.
Center Tea Cooperative Federation(CTCF) LTD Nepal, National Land Right Forum (NLRF) Nepal, and the Community Self-Reliance Centre (CSRC) conducted a National Level consultation workshop and Follow Through to promote the agenda of family farmers, especially young farmers, to mitigate and adapt to climate change, in the context of UNFCCC and POST COP27/PRE COP28 processes in association with Asian Farmers Association for sustainable rural development (AFA) on 09 April 2023 in Indreni Food land, Nayabanesor Kathmandu Nepal.
1.2 Objective
- Provide a platform for FFPOs and NYFCs to synergize with their governments on discussions on climate actions
- Share the initiatives, programs and policy calls of FFPOs and NYFCs that aim to mitigate and/or adapt to climate change
- Follow through on the agenda, commitment and actions taken by their governments in relation to COP27 commitments
- Identify entry-points in the policy processes in which FFPOs and NYFC representatives can be engaged, especially in influencing the agenda and key message in relation to UNFCCC COP.
1.3 Results
- Both CSO/ FO participants and government agencies are able to establish working engagement for COP28/ country level agriculture related climate actions
- CSO/FOs are aware of the initiatives, plans and progress of the government delegation last COP27 and to COP28
- CSO/FOs have a concrete action points on engaging governments in the preparation process for COP28
- CSO/FOs are able to make interventions and efforts in influencing the positions of their governments regarding climate change issues
