1.1 Rationale of Partnership Agreement

AFA has joined the consortium composed of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Global Forum on Agricultural Research and Innovation (GFAR), Agricultural Research Associations (APAARI), the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, Crop for Future research Centre, and MS Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) Foundation to support the development of specific actions that contribute to a supportive policy environment for more sustainable production systems and to support the GFAR Collective Action on Forgotten Foods as a global movement that brings stakeholders to a common goal of diversified agri-food systems which contribute to achieving SDG1: eradicating poverty in all its forms. Outputs of the partnership include a Regional Consultation expected to build a consensus around a new vision of research and innovation systems needed for enhancing bio-cultural diversity, hence empowering disadvantaged farmers, particularly women and youth, in their practices to cultivate, use, save, exchange and sell Forgotten Foods for nutrition, climate change resilience and identity conservation; a Manifesto for Forgotten Foods; and a Global Action Plan.

Prior to the webinar AFA will work with 18 farmers' organization from 18 countries to generate important information that will be used during the regional consultation/webinar and will inform the Regional Manifesto for Forgotten Foods. AFA will reach at least 1800 farmers from 18 countries through two methods (1) phone interviews for at least 70 farmers by member/partner FOs in Philippines, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, Nepal, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Japan, Taiwan, Mongolia, Fiji, Samoa, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan; and (2) online survey questionnaire targeting at least 30 respondents from the same above-mentioned countries.
