In Nepal, most tea is grown by smallholder family farmers. Smallholder family farming is the unique features and beauty of CTCF Nepal. These are families who own small pieces of land in an average of 0.5 Hector and grow tea as their main source of income. According to the National Tea and Coffee Development Board of Nepal (NTCDB) there are 15,001 small holder tea farmer who are totally based on the family farming. Among them around 8,500 (56 percent) small holder family farmer who are affiliated with CTCF Nepal as a member of primary cooperatives. Family members usually work together to plant, care for, and harvest the tea. This type of farming supports local livelihoods, helps reduce poverty, and keeps traditional farming knowledge alive. Smallholder tea farming is very important for Nepal’s economy and the development of rural areas.
CTCF Nepal has organized these small holder family farmer through the cooperative which volunteer association family farmer. With the vision of Sustainable Tea Cooperatives, Prosperous Farmers, CTCF Nepal is working on lobby and advocacy to faverable policy and providing support services like as tea technical training, marketing support to run professional businesses with climate resilient farming.
