Tea Producer District Cooperative Federation Limited [Ilam]

Introduction

District Tea Producer Cooperative Federation Ltd (DTCF) is established in 2007 by federating all the cooperatives within Ilam District under Division Cooperative Office, Ilam. In the beginning, 8 cooperatives including 450 tea farmers joined together and registered DTCF Ilam. It is the first tea cooperative federation of Nepal.

DTCF Ilaam has been working for economic and social development of tea farmers through cooperatives within its coverage area. DTCF Ilam was established to motivate tea farmers for professional organic tea farming and quality production through the cooperatives and to improve the living standard of tea farmers through the marketing support. Likewise, it is established for advocating the issues related to tea production and marketing, and continuing dialogues with the local governments, stakeholders and the processing industries.

Professional tea farming and industrialization form the foundation for cooperative, a balanced environment, and a prosperous society, strengthening Ilam's infrastructure.

Mission

To improve the standard of living by motivating tea farmers to engage in professional and quality tea production, processing and marketing through cooperatives .

Goal

To improve the standard of living of farmers by involving new tea cooperatives in the federation and supporting institutional development, organic tea cultivation, quality production, establishment of processing plants, marketing management and employment generation.

Objectives

• To develop and promote institutions and thematic federation within the scope of the association.
• To support the professional and economic development of its member institutions/thematic federation. In addition, to support the production and market promotion of tea bags and seedlings.
• To maintain cooperation and coordination between member institutions/thematic federation.
• To supply necessary materials to its member cooperatives/federation and to arrange a market for the products produced by the member cooperatives/federation.
• To undertake necessary commercial and industrial activities to increase its financial capacity to provide services to the member cooperatives/federation.
• To support the commercial, economic, technical and social development of its member cooperatives and thematic federation. Also, to affiliate cooperative cooperatives to the District Cooperative Association.
• To motivate groups related to tea to join the cooperative organization.
• To implement the Tea Code of Conduct (Riyambha or Riyalmagaat) in its member cooperatives and encourage them to produce quality green leaves in accordance with international standards and to encourage them to adopt the non-profit tea farming system.
• To strengthen member cooperatives/federation and emphasize the establishment and operation of tea processing factories.
• To cooperate with various cooperatives, government, non-governmental and international non-governmental cooperatives in a manner that does not compromise the objectives and work of the association and to support the production of quality orthodox tea, as well as to emphasize institutional capacity development.
• To motivate tea technicians to produce.
• To support the industrialization of the tea farming business.
• To support the tourism business by protecting the natural environment through tea farming.

Currently there are 39 cooperatives are associated with in the cooperatives.
