Introduction

Sakejung Tea Producer Cooperative Society Ltdwas established with the objective of playing a leading role in promoting and integrating tea farming in Nepal. It focuses on forming groups of tea farmers in Ilam Municipality-1, Ilam. , Nepalatar.

The cooperative aims to develop this region as an organic tea farming area.

Currently, the cooperative has 56 farmer members and operates under the principles of cooperatives, adhering to its ethical values. Its key functions include encouraging members in tea production, collecting and purchasing green tea leaves from tea farmers, marketing, producing and selling organic fertilizers, and processing tea.

The cooperative was officially established on Chaitra 15, 2067 B.S. (March 29, 2011 A.D.) with 25 members, registering at the Division Cooperative Office, Ilam. It is affiliated with District Cooperative Federation, Ilam and the Central Tea Cooperative Federation Ltd. (CTCF) Nepal.

Mission

The cooperative aims to provide its members with competitive prices for organic green tea leaves, cash crops, and ensuring processing, marketing, organic fertilizer production, and financial services such as savings and loans.

Additionally, it focuses on skill and capacity building, establishing small-scale industries, and creating self-employment opportunities. The cooperative envisions evolving into a sustainable institution.

Goals

In compliance with prevailing laws and regulations, the cooperative seeks to enhance the economic, social, and cultural well-being of its members and operational areas.

Objectives

The cooperative has set the following objectives:

    • To promote organic tea farming and tea plantation.
    • To provide the necessary organic fertilizers and organic pesticides for tea production.
    • To market the produced tea at the national and international levels.
    • To encourage members in tea farming for their economic development.
    • To promote mandatory savings, regular savings, and other savings programs to ensure future financial sustainability for members.
    • To coordinate with donor agencies and implement various programs.

Activities of the Cooperative

    1. Conducting savings and loan operations.
    2. Expanding organic tea farming.
    3. Purchasing and selling green tea leaves.
    4. Organizing technical, entrepreneurship, and cooperative awareness training programs.
    5. Implementing partnership programs with various organizations and institutions.
