Introduction
Makalu Tea and Coffee Producers Cooperative Society was established in 2055 B.S. by the 35 tea farmers with the objective of commercializing the tea farmers of Dhankuta Municipality ward no 10 of Dhankuta district.
Embracing the principles of cooperatives and their basic values and norms, this cooperative is actively working to bring improvements in the living standards of its members, mainly through encouraging tea production, collecting and selling green leaves tea produced by its member, processing and marketing of tea, providing proper training and agricultural equipment required for tea and providing financial and non-financial services.
At present, a total of 108 farmers, including 8 women and 100 men, have taken membership in this cooperative with approx 32.50 Hector of tea cultivation.
This cooperative is affiliated with the District Cooperative Federation Dhankuta, Tea Producers Cooperative Federation Dhankuta, Central Tea Cooperative Federation and National Cooperative Bank.

Mission
To facilitate the members of the cooperative in producing organic tea production, processing and marketing, along with provide employment opportunities with technical service, savings and credit facilities and capacity building to the members of the cooperatives.
Goal
To comply with the prevailing laws and regulations within the scope of the cooperative's work and to promote the economic, social and cultural progress of the Cooperative and its members.
Objectives
- To acquire modern technical knowledge and skills in tea and coffee production, to produce tea and coffee nurseries, to produce quality tea and coffee, and to raise the standard of living of the local people by increasing their economic growth.
- To organize tea and coffee farmers and encourage them to cultivate tea and coffee commercially,
- To organize through cooperatives to manage the market for the tea and coffee produced by the farmers and to coordinate and contact them in the national and international trade sector,
- To increase the technical knowledge and skills of tea and coffee farmers related to organic tea and coffee farming, and to coordinate advocacy with non-governmental organizations, organizations, government agencies, the private sector, and individuals to solve the problems of farmers,
- To protect and promote the environment,
- To assist farmers affiliated to cooperatives in obtaining loans at affordable and concessional interest rates,
- To make farmers aware and vigilant to conduct additional income-generating activities,
- To take the initiative in establishing processing factories for the green leaves and coffee produced,
- To cooperate with various government, non-governmental, and other national and international organizations and institutions in the form of concessions and grants to expand offices, factories, tea and coffee plantations To provide grants.
Additional objectives:
- To reduce the financial burden of members by providing organic fertilizers and pesticides and selling daily necessities at reasonable prices through cooperative shops,
- To increase the attraction of farmers towards organic farming by organizing visits to places where organic farming systems are adopted,
- To process organic green tea and coffee produced by farmers at low cost and arrange a market in the country,
- To try to stop the sale and distribution of harmful pesticides,
- To provide all kinds of technical assistance required by farmers,
- To conduct daily operations as provided in the Cooperative Act, rules and regulations, keeping the interests of the organization and members in mind, and to acquire, purchase, sell, exchange, transfer, deposit, mortgage, etc. Y To promote self-reliance, mutual cooperation and thrift among the members involved in the organization and to save regularly.
- To increase income sources and employment opportunities to improve the economic, social and educational status of the members of the organization.
- To provide interest to the depositors on their deposits at a competitive rate if deposits are received from the members regularly.
- To provide loans to the members at a specified interest rate for productive, income-generating and skill-generating purposes.
- To establish direct contact with the bodies that provide the services and facilities required by the members.
- To accept donations and grants received from donor organizations without any conditions.
- To maintain a cooperative spirit with local, regional, national and international organizations that have similar objectives to achieve its objectives.
- To conduct income-generating projects for the development of the members and the organization.
- To assist in the economic and social upliftment of the weak and low-income individuals and groups in the society.
- If necessary, this organization will obtain loans at concessional rates from cooperative and non-cooperative financial institutions and other bodies.
