Introduction
Basanta Tea Producer Cooperative Society Ltd., located in Basantapur of Terathum district was registered under the Division Cooperative Office, Dhankuta, with registration number 15/2066/2067.
The cooperative was formed primarily to organize tea farmers into groups, address restrictions on chemical fertilizers, commercialize tea farming, facilitate tea processing, and provide necessary training and advanced materials to tea farmers.
The cooperative is affiliated with the District Tea Cooperative Federation, Terathum and the Central Tea Cooperative Federation Ltd., Nepal.
Goal:
To ensure the economic, social, educational, and cultural advancement of the organization and its members by adhering to the prevailing laws and regulations within the organization's working area.
Objective:
- To produce organic green tea.
- To promote an organic movement in the tea sector by reducing the negative impact of chemical fertilizers and pesticides on health and the environment.
- To raise awareness among farmers about organic practices within the cooperative’s operational area.
- To encourage consumers to adopt organic tea consumption.
- To create employment opportunities through organic tea production.
- To modernize the tea sector with organic practices.
- Encourage members to develop a habit of saving by adopting various methods of savings collection.
- Conduct technical training related to tea cultivation and processing.
- Ensure special opportunities for women and members from marginalized communities to be elected and serve in managerial positions.
Activities:
- Work towards banning the distribution of harmful pesticides.
- Offer all necessary technical support to farmers.
- Improve the economic, social, and educational conditions of members by increasing income sources and employment opportunities.
- Offer competitive interest rates on deposits collected from members
- Provide organic fertilizers and pesticides to members and sell daily necessities at fair prices through a cooperative shop to reduce financial burdens.
- Organize exposure visits for farmers to locations practicing organic farming and promote organic agriculture.
- Arrange domestic market distribution for processed organic green tea.
- Provide loans at specified interest rates for productive, income-generating, and skill-based activities.
- Maintain direct contact with service providers and relevant organizations to facilitate necessary services for members.
- Cooperate with local, regional, national, and international organizations with similar objectives.
- Implement income-generating projects for the development of members and the cooperative.
- Support economically and socially disadvantaged groups for their upliftment.
